For the defense of property

For more than a month, we have received information about concerning events: the headquarters of the Bien and MLP parties located in Petén are obtaining electricity illegally. The manipulation of meters for electricity supply might seem like a minor issue, but it is a worrying action as it is promoted by institutions seeking to occupy a space in our Congress. Because of this, we filed a criminal complaint for Fluid Theft with the public prosecutor's office on April 10 of this year. We have not received any response to our complaint. Therefore, in the face of the silence from our authorities and the accused parties, we reiterate our rejection of these actions that violate the law and erode property rights.

Why is it important?

We believe it is a mistake to consider the manipulation of meters for electricity supply a minor issue. These are worrying actions because they are promoted by entities seeking to occupy a space in our Congress. In the case of the MLP, specifically, it seems like an action that foreshadows what was announced in their government plan. They seek the nationalization of a variety of services, including electricity. However, the sustained breaking of the law, demonstrated before they even have the possibility of exercising any legislative function, denotes a disrespect for the institutions they seek to form.

Property rights allow people to own things, exchange them, and enjoy their fruits. This right is protected by the constitution and is widely recognized as one of the pillars for economic development and the proper functioning of markets. Without this legal and economic institution, social productivity declines as the division of responsibilities, risk, costs, and profits becomes complicated.

How to defend property?

#EleccionesRep2019 🗳🇬🇹 | A complaint against two political parties for electricity theft (fluid theft) was filed this Wednesday with the Public Prosecutor's Office. @MCNGuatemala @joseecheve #Codeca #TuVotoCuenta #DependeDeTi #TSE 🔌💡https://t.co/PYGPS81FIy— República (@republicagt) April 10, 2019

This is why, as a movement, we will continue to defend property rights in their various manifestations, as well as the rule of law. We also invite you to report these actions in your own spaces so that everyone can learn about the actions that undermine our Republic.
