As part of the program to strengthen inter-institutional relations, during the first week of June, part of the Movimiento Cívico Nacional (MCN) team held a series of meetings in Washington, D.C. with officials from the United States Department of State, the House of Representatives, as well as with American think tanks.
What is happening in Guatemala this 2023?
The objective of these meetings was to provide an in-depth understanding of how the 2023 electoral process has developed. With the general elections approaching, attention and international interest in them has increased. Consequently, as MCN is a civil society organization committed to the consolidation of a democratic republic and has closely followed the electoral process, we have analyzed the threats, strengths, and weaknesses in the electoral contest.
We also participated in the Grow Forum - Generating Renewed Opportunities for Wealth-Creation - organized by the Chamber of Industry, along with U.S. senators and congressmen. The importance of economic cooperation between both countries and Guatemala's potential through attracting investment was emphasized.
As the Movimiento Cívico Nacional, we reaffirm our commitment to building a Democratic Republic and our proactive approach in implementing actions to guarantee free, transparent, fair, and legitimate elections. At the same time, we aim to strengthen cooperation and friendship between Guatemala and the United States.
